BE NICE BY SEAH SI YANG
The idea for "Be Nice" came out of a simple and idealistic thought—make the world a better place, by being nice to everyone around us.
During Singapore’s Circuit Breaker phase, Si Yang was keenly aware that besides our frontline medical workers, many construction workers, cleaners and food delivery riders still working and at risk of COVID-19 exposure. These were the people we often take for granted.
Siyang decided to buy 100 Plus drinks to give out, and create a video to express his gratitude and encourage others to be nice to our essential workers. At the time, Si Yang himself was doing Grab delivery and hadn’t yet found a job despite having graduated with a Business Diploma from Polytechnic and finishing NS. So, the initial plan was to just do 100 cans. But, when he told some of his good friends what he was doing, they wanted to chip in and be a part of Be Nice. In the end, they bought 240 cans and gave them out over three days—along with handwritten post-it notes—covering Yishun, Woodland and Yio Chu Kang.
After releasing the Be Nice video on YouTube, a number of his friends texted him saying they were inspired to be nice to essential workers too. Si Yang is ecstatic about the response—and it’s made him want to keep creating content that helps spread kindness in the world.
